Start with the controlling orders
Bring the original order, every modification, and any new demand, motion, or hearing notice. The period covered by a claimed balance and the obligations stated in the orders should be identified before the numbers are discussed.
Organize the payment history
Gather an official ledger if available, receipts, bank records, and documents supporting a claimed credit or explaining a missed payment. Identify a payment’s date, amount, and reference. An organizer can help locate records, but your own total does not decide the legal balance.
Address enforcement and defense on the evidence
A contempt allegation deserves careful attention to the facts and the relief being sought. I review the order, alleged noncompliance, payment evidence, and circumstances relevant to the claim or response. Neither a balance dispute nor an enforcement request supplies a guaranteed outcome.
Know what DCSS does
Georgia’s Division of Child Support Services does not decide custody or visitation disputes, and its attorney does not represent either parent. If you want advice directed to your own interests or have related parenting concerns, raise those issues when arranging a consultation.
